Irrigui-120   Irrigation water requirements

Estimating the volumes actually needed for agriculture is essential for efficient management of irrigation service by the Reclamation and Irrigation Consortiums.

The IRRISAT methodology allows the estimation of crop irrigation requirements on a satellite basis, combining information from multispectral satellite image processing and weather data, in a manner perfectly compliant with the MIPAAF DM. It can be carried out not only for the current irrigation season, but also for previous ones.

VANTAGGI
  • Estimating the real hydro need of crops
  • Checking the irrigated volumes provided (whether or not there are automatic meters)
  • Validating the operation of the counters
  • Support for the issuance of contributions for real water consumption
  • Support for sizing irrigated works
  • Complies with d.M. MIPAAF 3 of July 31, 2015

COME FUNZIONA

Irrisat uses images captured by the latest generation satellites, Sentile 2 and Landsat 8, which boast excellent temporal and spectral space resolutions, ideal for applications in the field of Agriculture.

The processing and analysis of the multispectral bands, which make up satellite images, allows a rapid and precise determination of the spatial and temporal variability of vegetative vigour (NDVI) and characteristics physiological resources of the crops. The identification of hydro-demanding crops is objective, it does not require information from the farmer.

Combining the characteristic parameters of the crop, such as the Albedo r, the LAI leaf area index (assessed by satellite images) and the weather data, the Penman-Monteith equation (F.A.O. notebook). 56 – Allen et al., 1998) allows to calculate the potential evapotraspiration, and consequently, the water requirements. It is the most scientifically accepted calculation model, represented by the Penman-Monteith equation (F.A.O. notebook). 56 – Allen et al., 1998) which hypothesizes the cultivation under optimal conditions of water availability and free of attacks from pathogens The determination of irrigation needs allows to follow the evolution over time of water needs both of large areas, and individual parcels.

The irrigation requirements calculated on a daily scale can be aggregated
Time scale, month or season
It is on a spatial scale, by parcel or by area
